Tim Duncan

Tim Duncan born as Timothy Theodor Duncan on April 25th 1976 in St Croix US Virgin Islands. In his early years he started off as an extremely well swimmer where he went on and broke several of US records at the ages of 13 and 14, his plans were to go to the Olympics to win a gold medal but eventually those big swimming dreams came to an end after a tragic incident that took place in his home state of Virgin Islands after Hurricane Hugo came and crashed into St Croix the area where he was living. Amongst the tragic the swimming pool where he practiced became destroyed filled with debris where he was forced to train in the ocean. Tim faced a major challenge due to his fear of sharks, and also another major love to Tim was the loss of his mother which changed Tim’s whole life around and left swimming for good. Tim was later on introduced to basketball by his brother-in-law, and eventually found a new love for a new sport and took his skills to St. Dunstan’s Episcopal High School where he averaged 25 points per game. Tim was offered the scholarships from Three schools—the University of Hartford, University of Delaware and Providence University but chose to go to A fourth school, Wake Forest. After college Tim was selected 3rd overall in the first round pick by the San Antonio Spurs, where he joined a major organization lead by a great team leader David Robinson and coach Gregg Popovich and two years later Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs went on to win their first ever Championship. The Championships seasons

1. 1998 1999: The San Antonio Spurs took on the New York Knicks in the NBA finals where they won their first Championship lead by David Robinson. During the season they started off slow but when the spurs got their chemistry together they became unstoppable with great inside prescience of the dynamic duo of David Robinson and Tim Duncan named the twin towers. Duncan was named to the All-NBA First Team for the second year in a row. He was the only NBA player to finish in the top 10 in scoring (21.7 ppg, sixth), rebounds (11.4 rpg, fifth), blocks (2.52, seventh) and field goal percentage (.495, 10th).. A great point guard and also a great team leader Avery Johnson who was also was responsible for making the game winning shot against the New York Knicks to win their first ever NBA championship. The championship year made the spurs also the first ever ABA team to win the NBA title.
2. 2002-2003: The Spurs became champs again defeating the New Jersey Nets in game 6, it was their second championship and also a retirement for the franchise leader David Robinson it was a very emotional game for the spurs because they were trailing throughout the whole game and had to make a comeback to win in the 4th quarter.
3. 2004-2005: The Spurs once again found themselves the dominant team in the west this time they took on the defending champions the Detroit Pistons. It was a very epic battle; the two teams went to game 7 where the spurs came out on top of the game.

SPURS 2010-2011 SEASON REVIEW

During the 2010-2011 season in the NBA the San Antonio Spurs have proved to be the best team, they got off to their best starting record 25-4 proving to be a contender for the NBA championship  it’s not just their record, but more importantly the way they play. The team is built around veterans, Tim Duncan a two time MVP considered to be one of the greatest power-forwards to play in the NBA, he was even given the name MR Fundamentals due to his style of play and is also the team leader. Tony Parker, Manu Ginoblli are the other two star veterans to play for the spurs winning 3 out of the 4 titles with Tim Duncan. They also have back-ups that play with unmatched cohesion, players such as George Hill and Dejuan Blair. The team is lead by veteran coach Greg Popovich who led the Spurs to 4 championships in 1999, 2003, 2005, and 2007. Critics are putting a lot of pressure on the San-Antonio Spurs this 2010-2011 season claiming that it is going to be the Spurs last run to win a championship because of the team star players are ageing and their careers may come to an end. Even Though the spurs are the number one team in the NBA, they face some major challenges going in to the playoffs where they have to face the NBA champions the Los Angeles Lakers and also the Spurs play in the western conference which is the hardest conference in the NBA.
